NJ trip Adventure
With David starting a new job, I tackled on a trip to NJ Easter weekend with the boys. The alarm clock went off at 4:00am and both boys were up and dressed before I could even get in the shower, hollaring "hurry, mom, we are going to miss the plane". If only they would do that during school! I had to excited boys and I was a ball of jitters! The unknown of traveling by plane and the thoughts of 9/11 dancing around in my head made me a nervous wreck! I was determined to make everything as smooth as possible. Off we went so early in morning...we had a 8:40am flight out of RDU. We made it with plenty of time to spare. My first stop was a resturant that allowed smoking. I desperatly needed it!
We boarded the plane and the kids were full of energy and sitting was not so easy for them. We got up in the air and everything was great! The best part was when I felt the plane land and I knew we had made it to our destination safely! Mom & Dad weren't far away and met us at the airport. We got our luggage & finally I relaxed a little. The NJ turnpike was all that people said it was........ CRAZY!
We got to mom & dad's around lunch time and Mom & I headed to a shopping center, where I was overwhelmed and very tired, so I got nothing accomplished! It had been a long travel day and I was ready for bed!
Saturday......
we headed for the big apple! We headed over to Princeton Junction to catch the train into the city. Now that was an interesting ride. Again, my kids do NOT like to sit still. They were excited and I was drained already!
We got to NYC and the boys were in awe. My first thoughts were, "Oh my goodness, what was I thinking?" Bringing 2 kids to NYC! There were thousands of people and I mean thousands. Getting off the train was the beginning of a very stressful day! Trying to hold on to my kids and not let them out of my site was physically draining. Out of the train station, and onto the street with the other thousands of people that had arrived before us! LOL... I'm not kidding. We got our tickets for the bus tour around the city. That was awesome, but cold. We rode thru the city getting off at different places to walk around and explore. We saw Ground Zero, The Statue of Liberty, Rockerfella Center, Trump Towers, Top of the Rock, China Town, 3 story Toys R Us, Macey's and the flower show within, Madison Square Gardens, Central Park, and everything in between. All during our tour I was planning my next trip on a non-holiday weekend without children!!!!
Overall our trip was fun & exciting. The boys got an experience of a lifetime and I had my nerves tested over and over again! LOL.... Sunday was Easter & Michael's birthday. We just hung around and lounged most of the day. Mom, Michael & I adventured over to Princeton to see those sites. We rode around the campus and admired the beautiful buildings, homes and little shops up and down the streets.
Our trip was soon to be coming to an end. Monday morning we gathered and packed our belongs to head back to the airport. Mom had to get to work so we said our good byes and shed a few tears. It was emotional. I hated to leave but was looking forward to coming back home to see David and get away from the big city hustle and bustle! Dad dropped us off and we said our goodbyes to him as well. Checked in our luggage, headed to security check points, and then realizing there was NO SMOKING at this airport. Oh, this was horrible, but I maintained. Our flight was SUPPOSED to leave at 1:10pm but was delayed until 2:15. To sum it up, I was in the airport with 2 tired, irritable boys for 3 hours and 45 mins! Another test of my nerves! Finally we boarded and headed back home. Shewwwwwwwwwwwww another long day!
